Niraivagam – Don Bosco Institute of Psychological Services Promoting Life in its Fullness through Psychological Interventions, Remedial Education, Research, Training and Advocacy

Niraivagam – Don Bosco Institute of Psychological Services (DBIPS) is established by the Salesians of Don Bosco, the first of its kind state-of-the-art institute by the religious in Chennai with a world-class team, offering psychological and spiritual services to augment holistic growth of people across lifespan. Niraivagam was founded by Fr. Joseph Jeyaraj SDB, in 2014 and it is primarily engaged in providing psychosocial services, education, research and training across geographies using a multi-disciplinary approach.


The primary objective of Niraivagam -Don Bosco Institute of Psychological Services is topromote fullness of life for every human by being a transformational agent providing comprehensive psycho-social and spiritual services to all towards holistic integration. Niraivagam provides a lasting continuum of psycho-social and psycho- spiritual services to human issues in educational institutions, parishes, oratories, work places, through advocacy, capacity building, consultation, education, research, and training while focusing primarily on children and parents, the youth, teachers, priests, religious and the collaborators.


Niraivagam (a Tamil word meaning ‘Abode of Fullness / Wholeness’) is an initiative of the Salesian Province of Chennai and, as the name indicates, it is intended to offer people an opportunity for attaining ‘wholeness’ through professional counselling and psychotherapy.

Niraivagam’s mission is to create a lasting continuum of psychosocial and spiritual services to human issues through advocacy, capacity building, consultation, education, research and training while focusing primarily on parents and children, the youth, teachers, priests and the religious.

  • Counselling, Psychotherapy and Capacity building workshops for

    students: In schools and other institutions throughout the year

  • Training of Teachers: In the beginning and during the first term of the academic

    year.

  • Continuous Professional Development: Seminars, workshops and research

    studies for mental health professionals, professors and students, NGOs,

    practitioners in counselling services.

  • Remedial Education: Throughout the year in those primary schools that avail the

    services and during vacation holidays.

  • Effective Parenting Programmes: In the beginning and during the first term of

    the academic year when institutions organize orientation sessions and follow up.

  • Individual clinical counselling: for adults, couples, children and religious

    throughout the year.

  • Psychological Assessment of personality and of vocation: Pre-novices, novices,

    lay people, career options, etc.

  • Remedial assessment of children: Children in schools and small children from

    families.

  • Workshops on self-development, leadership and team work strategies:

    Managers, H R managers, team leaders and staff of professional companies.

  • Emphasis on formation of Youth at Risk and Rural areas: Juvenile homes,

    prisons, migrants and young people at tribal areas are some our priorities.

  • Psycho-spiritual Interventions: Psycho-sexual integration, Group therapy and

    seminars on Psycho-spiritual well-being are offered to novices and young

    Salesians.
