Don Bosco Social Action and Research Centre (DBSARC) has been established by the Salesian Province of Chennai with the goal of strengthening the social dimension of the individual Salesian presences. It is a forum that facilitates voicing out the rights of the marginalized and acts as a platform for genuine dialogue. It adopts a professional approach in working towards the creation of a just society where everyone’s equality and dignity is upheld. Motivating youth to become active agents of social change by nurturing and strengthening their social consciousness is our major thrust.
“We educate and evangelize according to a plan for the total well-being of man…our purpose is to form upright citizens and good Christians"(Art 31). “We collaborate with economically depressed areas, educating them to a sense of moral, professional and social responsibility” (Art 33). “The moral basis of all social action consists in the human development of the person and identifies the norm for social action corresponding to humanity's true good and as efforts aimed at creating the conditions that will allow every person to satisfy his integral vocation” ( Social Teachings of the Church, 522). “Social action, making possible the progressive universalization of attitudes of justice and solidarity, which the people of the Covenant are called to have towards all men and women of every people and nation,” (STC, 25).
“DBSARC visualizes and is committed towards an alternative society based on the gospel that is just, equitble, participatory, pluralistic, inclusive, ecologically sesitive, human right based and sustainable.”
“DBSARC as youth ministry dimension, guided by the Spirit and charism of Don Bosco, to be the witnesses of the radical approach of the Gospel, go in search of the poorest of the poor, especially youth in our ministry, accompany to empower the powerless to become worthy of their entitlements by engaging them as partners in the journey towards self-realization and in creating a just and equitable society in collaboration with like-minded people with similar vision.”
To form young leaders with enhanced social perception to become catalysts of social change.
To create social awareness among students, staff, lay collaborators and other stakeholders.
To animate all candidates under formation and young priests to give orientation on current socio-economic and political situation to become social agents of change.
To provide professional assistance to all Salesian presences in the social dimension.
To setup research and development desk and take up researches and present the findings to the province to plan youth pastoral interventions.
To explore possibilities for social entrepreneurial initiatives for rural young people for their sustainable development.
Colloborates with different desks for planning and performing empowerment programmes.
To take up projects that support for the sustainable development of the marginalized communities and Youth.
