Vision: Establishment of a migrant aligned community with rightly formed conscience upholding inherent dignity, fundamental rights and universal love in Salesian spirit.


Mission: To promote responsible, safe, and orderly migration through collaboration, and social dialogue, advocating for fair labour standards, empowering marginalized migrants, and reducing their suffering by fostering inclusive, supportive policies and initiatives.

Background and Major Achievements

Don Bosco Migrant Services (DBMS), a unit of Salesians of Don Bosco Society has been successfully working since 2015 towards the cause of migrant welfare through effective rescue, support and dignified treatment. It rescues bonded labourers, gives awareness education, provides continuous education for migrant children and ensures the repatriation and dignified burial of deceased migrants. The dedicated team includes Community Mobilizers, Educators, Counselors and Hindi/Odiya-speaking teachers, enhancing trust and cooperation among stakeholders. The area of operation includes Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram Districts. Don Bosco Society has experiences in pioneering street children project and we ran help desk for children at the Railway Stations and Bus Stations which later on were merged with Government of India programme.


DBMS has been acknowledged as a valuable contributor in Unorganized Workers sector by


  • Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission has recognized DBMS as a center for excellence to undertake research study on migrants towards policy making at the State level.

  • Migrants Resource Centre Management: The Migrants' Resource Centre operates effectively, providing information, support services, and referrals to meet the needs of migrant populations.

  • Supplementary Education Programs: Supplementary tuition classes are organized for migrant children, enhancing their educational outcomes and helping them integrate into formal schooling systems.

  • Healthcare Initiatives: Healthcare programs focused on mother and child health are implemented, ensuring access to essential health services and addressing specific migrant health needs.

  • Welfare of Brick Kiln Laborers: Initiatives are carried out to improve working conditions and protect the rights of brick kiln laborers, ensuring fair wages, safety measures, and access to social services.

  • Advocacy for Migrant Rights: Advocacy efforts are undertaken to protect and promote the rights of migrant workers, including lobbying for policy changes and legal protections.

  • Networking and Partnerships: Partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations are built and strengthened to improve services and support for migrant communities.

  • Capacity Building: Training and skill-building opportunities are provided to migrants, empowering them to navigate legal, social, and economic challenges effectively.

  • Emergency Support: Contingency plans are developed, and emergency assistance is provided during crises or natural disasters to ensure migrant safety and well-being.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Accurate records are maintained, and detailed reports on migrant service activities and outcomes are prepared, with insights shared with stakeholders and donors through the DBMS Central Office.

  • Community Engagement: Migrant community participation is fostered, promoting empowerment, social cohesion, and collective advocacy, while building relationships with local stakeholders.

  • Field Operations and Supervision: Program implementation is overseen through regular field visits (10-15 days per month), weekly meetings are organized, staff are supervised, and visit records are maintained.
