The joy of sharing, caring and giving

There is a chillness in the air announcing that Christmas is near. And what is Christmas without sharing and caring for the poor?

The Good Samaritan Week Reach-out programme that St. Mary’s A-I. Hr. Sec. School organises year after year since 1996, is all about sharing and caring for the less fortunate brethren. It is also to instill the habit of sharing and to make them experience the joy of giving among the students, that have been the focus of the reach-out programme for the past 21 years.

Every day starting from Nov. 20th this year, students were motivated on sharing, through skits and motivational talks, in the morning assembly. The reach-out programme culminated with the Christmas programme on December 4, 2017.

When it comes to giving generously, St. Mary’s students are unbeatable. It is the combined and collective effort of the Management, Class Teachers, House Masters, Salesian co-operators and the students that they were able to collect more than Rs. 5 lakhs by way of cash and more than Rs. 50 thousand worth articles such as toothpaste, soap etc. this year, which were distributed to various orphanages, old age homes and other charitable organisations.

Perhaps inspired by this noble practice of reaching out to the poor and making them experience the joy of giving, the Department of Education, has started introducing the ‘Joy of Giving week’ in other schools, too. As pioneers in organising these reach-out programmes St Mary’s make their students socially conscious and morally responsible citizens of tomorrow.
