In the memory of the Sporting Padre


Fr. Sean McFerran, an Irish Missionary spent 36 years, rendering committed service, in India and ten more years of constant visits to Chennai. Known in sports circles as Sporting Padre, he was a great lover and promoter of football. This year is the birth centenary of Fr. McFerran and in commemoration of this, the Don Bosco - Fr. McFerran Trophy All India Football Tournament is currently being held in Don Bosco Wisdom Town, Red Hills, Chennai.

    The Tournament commenced on January 13, 2018, inaugurated by Ms. Vita Dani, co-owner of Chennaiyin FC, where Mr. Abhishek Bachchan, Co-owner of Chennayin FC was the Star Guest. Rev. Fr. John Peter, Rector, presided in the function where Mr. C. Kalaichelvan IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Madhavaram District) was the Chief Guest.

    Sixteen teams from various states are participating in the tournament which will be played on knockout basis. The Tournament is being held under the auspices of the Tiruvallur District Football Association, sanctioned by Tamilnadu Football Association and registered with the All India Football Federation.

    The Final and Prize distribution will be on January 28, 2018.
