DON BOSCO – EGMORE Don Bosco Primary School
There are 1433 students from JKG to V Standard, with 446 Catholic boys. There are 48 teachers, (43 of them Catholics), 2 Catholic office staff and 8 non-teaching staff members (4 of them Catholics). Bi-weekly morning assembly, daily Catechism and moral science classes, monthly First Friday mass and Confession and group masses are conducted. The infrastructural facilities of the school have been improved very much giving it a child-friendly ambient. There are four main groups: Cubs, Liturgy, Social Service and Literary Clubs, with 60, 50, 50 and 40 members respectively. Besides, regular coaching classes in football, cricket, table tennis and chess are conducted. The School takes the lead in organizing inter-school events, like drawing & painting competition, Catechetical presentation and KG Fete.
Don Bosco Higher Secondary School
There are 1357 students from Standards VI – XII, with 40 teachers, 7 office staff and 6 non-teaching staff members. While 25% of them is affluent, 45% of them is middle class, while the remaining 30% of them is from the lower middle class families. There are 382 Catholic boys and about 100 students receive fee-concession. There are four groups: the N.S.S., Scouts, R.S.P., and the Bosco Education Movement with 50, 160, 30 and 146 members respectively. Catechism and moral value classes are conducted daily. Monthly First Friday mass and confessions and annual retreats are also offered for Catholic students. With its Educational and Pastoral plan, the School also provides students with opportunities to form themselves into honest and responsible young men in society.
Past Pupils
There are more than 300 active past pupils in the Past Pupils’ Unit of the School. They meet twice a year for a Tea Meeting and once for the Annual Dinner. The core group consists of 15 members, who meet once a month in the school. The Principal animates the group. They help the school by providing scholarships for poor students, reach out generously in times of calamity, and strive to maintain a good familial rapport among themselves and the Salesians.
Salesian Cooperators
There are around 20 Salesian Cooperators, who are teachers in both the Schools. Every second Saturday of the month, a meeting is held from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., which usually begins with Mass / Adoration or a Rosary service. The Rector animates the group. The Cooperators help out in the evening study centres and also animate liturgical services in the Schools.
Evening Study Centres
There are 464 poor children attending the evening study in 9 centres with 28 teachers looking after them. Thrice a year they meet together (June, December and March). Various competitions are conducted and prizes are awarded. Poor students are also helped out financially. Under the guidance of the Rector, the Bosco Education Scheme (BES), which was started in November 2001, looks after the organization of the Evening Study Centres. The BES also sponsors the running of two rural high schools and a few other night study centres in the Province.
