Is a Registered Trust under the Trust Act . This is a non-profit voluntary organization.
Initiated by The Chennai Province of the Salesian Society’, in 1994 for providing centralized and professional back office support to various funding partners and our local Project Holders.
It is registered and recognized to receive donations from foreign agencies under F C R A (Foreign Contribution and Regulation Act). It has 12AA & 80G exemptions to receive donations.
ORIGIN…
SURABI Development Office was started in 1994 with the view to provide centralized and professional back office support to various funding partners and our local project holders in terms of Project preparation, fund raising, project monitoring and evaluation; research and training needs spread across SDB centers, Sister organizations and local organisations of North Tamil Nadu.
Following the foot steps of the founder of the Salesians of Don Bosco, SURABI has been undertaking: Educational Institutions, Orphanages and Boarding houses, Technical Institutions, Agricultural Institutions, Commercial Institutes, Hostels for working youth, youth centers, women empowerment through Self Help Groups, Centers for the children in difficult situations, Rural Development Activities, Prison and Juvenile Homes Ministry, Gypsies Welfare Programmes and Thurumbars - Dalits Human Rights Education etc.

To evolve and implement strategic plan of action for urban and rural economic and social development
Backing institution in need analysis, problem assessment, planning, resource mobilisation, training, monitoring and evaluation of projects for the smaller agencies with good rapport with the people.
To be an umbrella in transferring the resource to the needy as a trustworthy partner – to work hand in hand with any Funding Partners /Donors and a reliable friend with the Project Holder.
METHOD…
The basic method of planning is done through PSP (Participatory Strategic Planning). This involves the beneficiaries at all levels of planning, formulation, implementation and evaluation of programmes.
Project consultation is provided through the experts in required disciplines of Economics, Agro, Ecological Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Information Technology and Social Work who obviously use PSP in Planning and Implementation at all levels.

Programmes on Capacity Building…
Regular programmes on Capacity Building trainings are offered to the Staffs of the SURABI and the Project Holder. SURABI also helps in institutional capacity building through the consultancy evaluation of the organizations and the Institutions. The Resource persons are offered according to the request of the agencies.
Special Seminars are conducted in the related fields and in the growing trends Social Project Management and Personal Management.
