The migrants from Manipur who have been affected by the armed violence that erupted in Manipur state on May 3, 2023. As per news and print reports, the incident till date has resulted in the loss of more than 100 lives, with over 50,000 families being displaced and rendered homeless, and the displacement continues to this day.
In response to this situation, Don Bosco Migrants Services (DBMS) took immediate action to reach out to the affected migrant families, particularly those who have settled in Chennai, specifically in the areas of Choolaimedu, Adayar and Besant Nagar, as well as various parts across Tamil Nadu.
As an act of solidarity and in collaboration with the diocese, we had organised a prayer service on July 2, 2023, between 9:30 to 11:30 am. The service was headed by the Arch Bishop of Madras-Mylapore, and it provided solace and support to the affected migrants during this challenging time.
It is crucial to note that these individuals and families have left their family properties and homes, unable to return due to the severity of the situation. Many are currently in transit, seeking a safe life and an opportunity to start anew. Their resilience and determination are truly admirable.
We, at Don Bosco Migrant Services, remain committed to providing assistance and support to these affected migrants. We are working closely with various stakeholders to address their immediate needs, including shelter, food, healthcare, and emotional support. Additionally, we are exploring avenues for long-term rehabilitation and integration.
In conclusion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your support and encouragement in this endeavor. Don Bosco Migrant Services, in collaboration with our partners, will continue to prioritize the welfare and well-being of the affected migrants from Manipur. We firmly believe that through our collective efforts, we can make a positive difference in their lives.
